Create a Life Story Playlist

Hello Hivers!

30 Day Blogging Challenge by @tegoshei for Day 7 got me thinking about what's in my Top 5 list of Favorite Music. I'll put my spin to it by choosing music that reflects my life journey. Towards the end of this post (if you scroll down), allow me to share my thoughts on how to build a life story soundtrack.

Have you ever visualized how your funeral is going to be like?

I'll start towards the end, moving backwards. Through a workshop, I meditated and imagined how I would like my funeral to be. A wine and cheese party with guests made up of close friends and family who shared this journey with me. No tears, just celebrating life, reminiscing and drinking to a life lived to the fullest.

One Republic - I lived

If I could play one song in my funeral, this would be it. That's how I would like to be remembered. If I could come close to living the words of this song then I could rest in peace. To listen, click here

Nine by Sleeping at Last

Sleeping at Last is one of the most underrated artists. I am fascinated by their music. Among all of them, "Nine" resonates well with me. Nine is the 25th song and the final song in their Atlas II series. According to Sleeping at Last, this song was written and inspired by the Ninth type of the Enneagram. I belong to the ninth type and coincidentally, nine is my life path number according to numerology as well.

Ocean (Where Feet May Fail) by Hillsong United

This song rescued me during a really dark time. It gives me strength and courage to face a difficult moment that I thought I could never walk through alive. I still listen to it in times of uncertainty and sadness.

Brave by Sara Bareilles

"Say what you want to say and let the words fall out. Honestly, I want to see you be brave."

Having been raised in an environment where I am silenced and forbidden to express who I am, it took me half of my life to find my voice and discover my identity. Fear greets me still, before crossing the threshold of asserting myself, but these words just send the right amount of motivation to speak one's mind and express his/her truth. Due to copyright issues, if you want to listen to the song please click Brave Youtube Link

I am a big fan of Sara Bareilles so one of her songs should sit right on my top 5.

What A Wonderful World

Originally sung by Louis Armstrong whose jazz version deserves praise. I chose Renee Dominique's mashup of Wonderful World and Can't Help Falling in Love with her soothing voice and ukelele. This was how I imagined the world to be, while growing up despite the incompatible reality of my childhood. I dream of a life wonderfully lived regardless.

How to Build a Musical Life Story?

Relax, allow yourself to be alone and drift back in time to music that shaped your childhood, your past. Which song pops up ? Grab a pen and a notebook.

Song carries with it meaningful personal memories, hence no life story playlists are ever the same.

Defined by a specific era perhaps? Every time we hear a significant song, we are transported back to a particular time.

Which genre dominates your scribbled list?

Feel free to listen to the radio. If your collection of CDs or vinyl records still exist, which artists and songs did you find?

Once you have gathered these songs, how do you feel when listening to them? Which emotions surface along with the beat, the words? What do they tell you?

What would be in your life story soundtrack?
