Random Things About Me Over Coffee

30 Day Blogging Challenge Day 2.jpg

Conversations are best with a steaming cup of freshly brewed black coffee especially when there's a small piece of dark chocolate along with it. We are on Day 2 of the 30 Day Blogging Challenge by @tegoshei and today's topic calls for 10 facts about the blogger.

Although I'm often too serious, I will try my best to keep it light. Here goes

  • I have a very short attention span. Absent-minded and often caught up daydreaming, I thought I have mastered the art of pretending to listen. Yohann is always frustrated with this. I have an automatic "yes" response, so he is forced to ask me minimum three times to get the right answer.

I thought he was the only one suffering from this until I was asked by my former boss to attend a seminar called "The Art of Listening." After having completed the training with a certificate to show up for, did I improve? Ask @iamyohann

  • I am naturally a leftie, but I have learned to write with my right hand as well for reasons I can no longer remember. I can also write upside down. It was an 'ice breaker' trick I use to amuse clients during meetings when sketching and noting down important details.

  • I was a strict vegetarian for 7 years. I was partly lacto-vegetarian and at some point vegan. After 7 years of being a vegetarian, one day, I decided to eat a big Burger King Whopper with Cheese, just like that and that was the end of it.
  • I can sleep anywhere almost immediately while sitting down in less than a minute may it be inside the plane, a moving bus, or the train.

  • My car was my second home while living in the Middle East. Sometime between 2007-2010, for three years, I woke up daily at 3:45 am in order to leave the house before 4:30 am to beat the horrendous traffic between Sharjah and Dubai on the way to Jebel Ali in the UAE. It's a 78 kilometer drive and mid-way, I stop at my favorite gas station convenience store for my morning caffeine fix and freshly baked goods. I would then continue the drive for another 15 minutes until I reach our office parking lot where I would spend the next 2 hours or so sleeping in the backseat of my car which had quilts and pillows. My beloved hatchback car was my second home back then. The trunk was equipped with an overnight bag filled with emergency clothes, extra business dinner suits and shoes. Our office errand man knew this and he always knocked on the windshield to wake me up ten minutes before office starts.

Typical Day at the Office in Dubai / Evening Business Dinners and Events

  • I am was a workaholic. Flashback to several years ago, I couldn't finish a movie at the cinema because my phone rang every 5 minutes. Each ring equated to a problem that needed solving. I worked on weekends. At times, I didn't see my husband for 2 weeks straight even if we lived in the same apartment. I was married to my work and I loved it. I was at the office during the day and went to site from midnight till sunrise. And when I felt like sleeping, I would be on a power nap either under the table of a hotel ballroom during an event set up or inside my hatchback at the parking lot. That, or I was away for several days overseas on business trips. Most nights were packed with formal networking events and business dinners. I honestly miss the activities though, the rush of accomplishing something and making things happen.

  • I am a francophile. I am obsessed with anything french. It started way before I met my husband. The first time I spotted the only french grammar book in our school library, I continuously borrowed it throughout my high school years and started learning it on my own. These were the pre-internet era when there were library cards and an actual library catalog system. I had no idea I would marry a french man later.

Salers, France

  • I took 2 college courses simultaneously in 2 different universities. I was studying Architecture in U.S.T. from June to March and studied Interior Design in PSID (Philippine School of Interior Design) from March to June. I therefore didn't have summer holidays. There were a few weeks when classes overlapped in June and I had to run around from one university to the next. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish the latter. I had to financially support my siblings so I was forced to work asap.

  • Being a stay at home mom was not exactly in my life list. I have always been a career oriented woman and to be honest, I have never imagined myself putting my career on hold while living remotely in a tropical island when I became a Mom. It took a while for me to accept that. Now, seeing my daughter grow up and having witnessed her milestones, I know I have made the right decision.

  • Lastly, I avoid any sport activities that involve balls. Any sport where balls bounce back. That goes for shuttlecocks too. Balls hate me, they always land on my face. (Sorry, that didn't sound well lol)

That's about it. Cheers and congratulations in advance to the other bloggers- we've just completed Day 2. For those who are interested in the challenge, write along. See you tomorrow!
