Greetings to all, hoping that health, happiness, joy, and prosperity are present in your lives. A few days ago, I was walking my usual route when I came across this beautiful insect, so I stopped and took a picture. Its presence was quite noticeable against the gray of the path.

I don't recall ever seeing this beautiful butterfly before. I have seen some similar moths in my yard, but not this insect. After searching online, I found that its scientific name is Melanis electron, but I don't know its common name where I live. What I did find out is that it's a butterfly, not a moth, so it belongs to the order Lepidoptera.

There is little information available online about this butterfly. I read on one website that it was a rare butterfly, although specialized literature indicates that it is distributed throughout the Neotropical region in approximately 16 countries.

I was able to investigate that it feeds on various species of plants, among them Samanea saman, or as it is colloquially known, Samán, which is a common tree in the area where I observed it, hence its presence in the area is logical.
