Hi HODLers,
As the Worldcup 2022 (probably the most controversial ever), FIFA has announced they will launch an NFT Platform to collect soccer-themed NFTs.
It will be called FIFA+Collect and will be launch next month. It will run on Algorand. The FIFA claims that it will feature "affordable, inclusive, and accessible" NFTs.
“Just like sports memorabilia and stickers, this is an accessible opportunity for fans around the world to engage with their favourite players, moments and more on new platforms,”
In the end, nothing new under the sun but it seems most Sport Governance Bodies have identified this "collectibles" as a low risk / high reward ($$$). As they do not promise any utility or game around these, it is just a video/card for fans to collect.
I have participated in the NFL All Day experience and I must say, there is not really a point. You buy packs and get NFTs on players / events and then? Well nothing. They do noteven claim it will be use in the future in some type of Blockchain game.
Good luck to the FIFA trying to cash out some $ thanks to NFTs!
Crypto.com also announced it would be the World Cup's exclusive crypto exchange sponsor.
Well at least until they back away right? As they did for the $495mn sponsorship deal with UEFA for the European Champions League. Link here.
Something is still fishy with that company. Beware!
