Hello, music lovers! πΆ
It's Friday, and the weekend is upon us!
If you have no idea what to listen to, here's a fresh selection of new music, #newtunes, in different styles and genres, by famous and unknown musicians who will try to dominate your ears with fresh songs.
Gentle and romantic melodies, energetic dance beats, or quirky improvisations. The choice is yours. Take a few minutes, and if you don't like something, feel free to skip it!

David Gilmour - Between Two Points
I can't help mentioning Gilmour again and the second single from his album 'Luck and Strange,' which will be released in September. It is much more polished than the first single, 'The Piper's Call'.
It's a family affair, with wife Polly writing the lyrics and daughter Romany singing, despite being a harpist. I don't know what to say; it's perhaps his way of slowly saying goodbye.
Vana - BEG!
VANA, or Yvonne Winckel, is a young New Zealand musician who broke into the global market relatively quickly (within a couple of years) with a combination of pop and metal, so-called dark or grim pop, which is now trendy.
This style is also represented by the more notorious Poppy, say, or Aurora or Babymetal. The major record labels support this behind the scenes, rapidly (and successfully) creating and placing trends and stars on the global market.
For consumers, sorry, listeners, and profits, of course.
Moving as a Giant - Terminal Dancer
Moving as a Giant is a newer Slovenian band from Murska Sobota. A few days ago they released their first album with the same title. They came to my attention as one of the winners of Club Marathon 2023 and I recorded them at a show about 8 months ago. You can see the recording here. The sound is still pretty good (if anyone is critical of my amateur recording with phone camera :))
Post-rock and drone rhythmic background, shoegaze guitars and melancholic, sometimes high-pitched vocals create an apocalyptic atmosphere like a Chelsea Wolfe, or turbo Florence and The Machine...
Oliver Wood - Light and Sweet
Oliver Wood is an American guitarist and frontman of the Wood Brothers and has been playing since 2004. His music combines folk, gospel, blues, and jazz. I didn't know him until now, but I read somewhere that he has been recording for Blue Note since the beginning. For me, this label is synonymous with quality music, in principle.
This song is from his second solo album, Fat Cat Silhouette, released in April.
Dave Harrington, Max Jaffe, Patrick Shiroishi - Dance Of The White Shadow And Golden Kite
The trio is from Los Angeles and has been playing together since 2021. All three are established artists with decades of enviable musical careers behind them. Their collaboration resulted in the album 'Speak, Moment', which was released in March of this year.
Improvisation, fusion, electronica, spiritual jazz, or experimentation? A little bit of everything, and very balanced, as expected from such caliber. Recommended.
Loula Yorke β Staying with the Trouble
Loula Yorke is a classically trained composer and musician from the UK. For more than 15 years, her work has focused on minimalism as a musical genre in electroacoustic music. She has eight albums under her belt, most recently Volta, released in January this year, in which she continues her approach to techno minimalism.
The rhythmic triggering of monophonic analog oscillators that hum and reverberate in delay and reverb effects forms the musical structure of a hypnotic soundscape that influences our stream of consciousness.
Of course, we have to be prepared for that.
Airbag - Erase
Airbag is a Norwegian rock band that has been playing since 2008. Last week, they released their sixth album, The Century of the Self, which also features the song 'Erase.'
They can be placed in the progressive rock genre, with influences and heritage from Pink Floyd (they started as a tribute band to them), with the appropriate songwriting and ferocity, changes of rhythm and dynamics like Porcupine Tree.
It's a sound that I like, mainly because it's fresh and harking back to another time.
Fatboy Slim - Role Model
Norman Quentin Cook, better known as Fatboy Slim, is a British musician, DJ, and producer who has been active in the music world since 1980. He is known for winning many awards: 1 Grammy, 9 MTV video awards, and 2 Brit Awards. In the 2008 Guinness Book of World Records, he was listed as the man with the most music awards for the top 40 hits released under different names.
He gained recognition as the bass player in The Housemartins from 1985 to 1988. Since 1996, he has been DJing solo as Fatboy Slim and has released five albums. Last week, he released the single "Role Model," featuring a danceable beat. The accompanying video is quite entertaining, at least in my opinion. But, obviously, without AI, it's no more...
πΆThat's all for today, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!
