From Jupiter to Mars - Let the musical mission commence.
Vom Jupiter bis zum Mars - die musikalische Mission kann beginnen.
Let us start with the review (Jazz-Fun):
“The whole thing is a good composition, with an original harmony and a lot of rhythm. Some people may have their doubts: “Is this jazz?” Yes it is, but with a slightly different groove.
A pulsating beat that is complemented by the sounds of a trumpet and a saxophone that seem to be touching the spheres of the boundaries of music. This makes for an energetic piece of music that may not be entirely accepted by the jazz purists. Nevertheless, I would like to encourage everyone to go and listen to it. Those expecting good, danceable music will not be disappointed.”
Beginnend mit der Einschätzung der Kritik (Jazz-Fun): »Das Ganze ist eine gute Komposition, eine originelle Harmonie und viel Rhythmus. So mancher wird sich fragen: “Ist das Jazz?” Ja, aber in einem etwas anderen Groove. Ein Pulsieren, das durch die Klänge einer Trompete und eines Saxofons ergänzt wird, die die Sphären der musikalischen Grenzen zu berühren scheinen. Somit eine energiegeladene Musik, die von Jazz-Puristen vielleicht nicht ganz akzeptiert wird. Ich möchte jeden dennoch ermutigen, es sich anzuhören. Wer gute, tanzbare Musik erwartet, wird nicht enttäuscht werden.«
If you want to take it to other spheres, have a closer look at the crew who took their seats in the rocket. There is Philipp Püschel with his trumpet and his flügelhorn. Lasse Golz is hanging on to his saxophone, while Valentin Mühlberger is tuning up his synthesiser for what's to come. Paul David Heckhausen is responsible for the electronics. Felix Dehmel is always trying to find the right beat on the drums.
With everyone on board, the mission can begin.
Wenn es in andere Sphären gehen soll, dann rate ich dazu, die Crew näher zu begutachten, die in der Rakete Platz genommen hat. Philipp Püschel mit seiner Trompete und dem Flügelhorn. Lasse Golz klammert sich ans Saxophon, während Valentin Mühlberger seinen Synthesizer auf Kommendes einstimmt. Paul David Heckhausen ist für die Elektronik zuständig und Felix Dehmel versucht an den Drums stets den richtigen Takt vorzugeben. Damit sind alle Mann an Bord und die Mission kann beginnen.
Rocket Men have found toghether from the jazz, funk, and pop scenes in Hamburg, Berlin and Leipzig. The album "The Orbiter Sessions" features what the band has been known for over the years. Plenty of synthesiser sounds, almost rock-like drums and a dominant horn section with trumpet and saxophone. They describe it as "Funky Drum & Space". In addition to the jazz improvisation, there is also a lot of room for techno, dub and brass instruments. It is not without reason that the quintet is recommended to be seen live on stage whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Zusammengefunden haben sich Rocket Men aus der Jazz-, Funk- und Popszene in Hamburg, Berlin und Leipzig. Das Album “The Orbiter Sessions” wird von dem getragen, wofür die Band seit Jahren bekannt ist. Viel Synthesizer-Sound, beinahe schon rockige Drums und bestimmende Bläser mit der Trompete und dem Saxophon. Sie selbst bezeichnen es als Funky Drum & Space.
Da bleibt dann neben den Jazz Improvisationen viel Raum für Techno, Dub und Brass. Nicht umsonst kommt auch der Rat, wenn sich die Möglichkeit ergibt, das Quintett unbedingt live auf der Bühne zu erleben.
In addition to the 'Weightless' EP, 'The Orbiter Sessions' is the fourth album to be published by Rocket Men. "Dance on the Mars" and "Since 1996" were followed by "Twerk & Travel". One of the highlights of the band's career has to be the invitation to the Elbphilharmonie concert hall in Hamburg. In other words, in the temple of music, where the best orchestras of the world usually come together.
To conclude, here's another assessment from a critic who, as I see it, no longer seems to stand on solid ground.
Abgesehen von der EP ”Weightless” ist “The Orbiter Sessions” nun das vierte Album, das Rocket Men auf den Markt bringen. Auf ”Tanz auf dem Mars” und ”Since 1996” folgte ”Twerk & Travel”.
Zu einem der Höhepunkte im Schaffen der Band gehört wohl die Einladung in die Hamburger Elbphilharmonie. Also in dem Musik-Tempel, in dem sich üblicherweise die international besten Orchester ein Stelldichein geben.
Zum Abschluss eine weitere Einschätzung eines Kritikers, der - meiner Einschätzung nach - allerdings keinen festen Boden mehr unter den Füßen zu spüren scheint.
