One passion that I discovered a lot later than it should, was the appreciation for street art whether it comes as graffiti, murals, wheat pastes, or things entirely covered in stickers. When I was a kid, I used to show a lot of interest in drawing all kinds of names and words by using graffiti styles, but back then, it was really rare to see a mural or actual painting drawn on a building but only different undecipherable texts.
Happily, the place where I'm currently living (Sibiu) enjoys a festival with this purpose that brings lots of artists from more parts of the world and offers them the chance to expose their skills on the buildings in town, these days having over 110 such murals. But while I plan to start to share them only after I manage to discover them all, this will have to wait a bit longer since I'm only at half of the whole amount of art exposed.
A thing that I don't know how I neglected during my trips though, was to search if the upcoming city or country I was going to visit had this kind of pieces of art, because I was more dedicated to seeing as much of the city, culture and traditions this had to offer for the tourists. But as soon as I googled "Street art in Prague" and got this article as results, I can easily say that this represents a big regret for me since I didn't manage to meet not even one of those murals during my walks in town.
Either way, since I am an explorer and did walk around 10-15km daily during my stay in Prague, I did find some street art that I couldn't pass without taking a picture of, starting with this one that was just around the corner where we had our accommodation.
I had quite a few debates with the friends I was traveling with thinking about what this mural shows, some of us thinking of the Peroni beer while others thought about a train station since "peron" in Romanian means "train platform" and somehow it made sense in our heads. While we couldn't find the answer to our curiosity, we all agreed that more than anything it's a really beautiful mural and we felt blessed getting to see it more than once as we met this one every day during our stay in Prague.
Following the same street, we discovered three more pieces of art which were close to a shopping center that we used to enter to buy groceries and the ingredients to prepare food at home.
While the first one are quite expressive and the 2nd one most likely everyone knows what represents, I can't say the same about the 3rd image where the whole art happened on plenty of tiles. But I think this method is a lot easier to use, so when people intend to get rid of the art they will only need to remove the tiles rather than repainting the whole building.
The next four shots were taken quite in a rush while we walked to various points of interest and I can't really give proper directions about their location. But the one that I remember because it caught my attention more, was the door entirely covered in stickers which I found on the way to the Castle of Prague.
I'm not a fan of seeing stickers glued randomly everywhere you look around as some objects are really not meant for this (for eg. a bench or a monument from the park). But as long as the little chaos is controlled and made within some well-determined limits, then I absolutely love it. And this is the case for the 3rd image from above.
The next few shots are still in the same situation as the previous ones, being taken while walking from a destination to a new one, and cluttering up our days as much as possible made me pay less attention to the actual location of these.
However, I remember the 2nd one being on the front side of a souvenir shop that we also entered, and the 3rd image from our last day in Prague before catching the flight back home, in Letna Park.
Obviously, I couldn't finish this post before sharing an image of the Lennon's Wall that gave me a lot of mixed feelings back then but which still represents a cool place to visit while in Prague.
This is my first post in this community so I'm looking forward to meeting more people who share the same passion as I did run into lots of cool posts shared here before, and I promise to return with more street art I discovered both in my town but also during my trips.
Other places I've seen during my stay in Prague:
- The "John Lennon" Wall
- The Nustle Bridge also known as "The Suicide Bridge" of Prague
- Street Art in Prague
more coming soon...
