Croc Remaster Getting Updates While Cutting Back

Fans of gaming from the mid to late 90’s, affectionately referred to by many as the “PlayStation Era” will want to hear this news. The Croc Remaster/Remake is coming together nicely. Previously I wrote up a news article where I voiced a concern over controls. That concern is no longer an issue as it is indeed getting fixed.

Quality of Life Improvements for the Win

When companies remake/remaster classic games, often they don’t bother with Quality of Life (QoL) improvements. Often they go for a 1 to 1 remake only really upgrading the graphics and audio.

Thankfully, lately, companies are getting away from this. Not only the upcoming Croc remaster but we saw this in the Killing Time Resurrected release as well.

It is a great time to be a retro gaming fan.

Croc’s QoL upgrade is the controls. Finally the tank controls will be gone, the developers are bringing in full on analog controls. This is going to make playing Croc so much easier and enjoyable.

Not All Roses and Chocolates

Argonaut Games are seemingly skipping one of the most popular digital game release platforms available – Steam. There is no information available currently, just Steam is not on their PC release schedule at this time.

They are focusing on Good Old Games (GoG.com) for their PC release of the new version of Croc.

I do not believe GoG.com made an exclusivity deal for Croc, that is simply not their style from my understanding, and the plethora of releases they have made available.

No, I think this has more to do with how GoG.com sells games to fans and Steam sells a “license to play” the game. I want to give Argonaut Games a pat on the back here for this but I can’t because I currently cannot confirm this is the situation.

I like to think some game publishers understand and care just as much as gamers do.

Croc Remaster is coming to PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Windows via GoG.com's digital store.
