Croc Legend of the Gobbos Getting Remaster Release in 2024

Croc Legend of the Gobbos by Argonaut Software is one of those almost completely forgotten games from the tail end of the “mascot” era. Mascot gaming survived the evolution from 16-Bit 2D side-scrolling into 32-Bit collect-a-thon territory. Croc was released in the latter era of mascot gaming. Gaming fans back in the mid 90’s was able to play Croc on PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and PC. Now, he is making a return for modern platforms with an all-new remaster.

The One Problem Croc Had is Seemingly Fixed

If you were (un)fortunate enough to play Croc, then you probably remember the “unique” control scheme in place. Argonaut almost bucked the entire genre with how they handled in level movement. It was weird and it went against what was conceivably “industry standard” by the time they even began work on Croc, let alone released it.

In Croc, you seemingly moved the level around him when running around. This was completely different than more popular releases that all followed a similar control style that had you moving your character around in the level.

It is hard to explain, and it was harder to grasp back in the day.

It doesn’t matter much now as that seems to have been fixed in this upcoming remaster release. Well, “modern” controls are mentioned, I hope that means they fixed things and not just “use the analog stick to turn” or something.

The Hard Details

Croc Legend of the Gobbos is not a remake, it is a remaster. This means there will probably be some archaic level sections that simply don’t make sense to modern gamers. Definitely will be some frustrating sections and probably more than one airborne controller.

The release date for Croc is sometime in 2024, it might, I stress might, slip into 2025. It is unclear what platforms are getting this remaster but a safe bet is just about any modern platform should be a recipient.
