Sometimes forgiveness is a process, not a one-time event. The pain may return in waves, and memories may try to reopen the wound. In those moments, we must choose again to forgive. Prayer helps us in this journey because it softens our hearts and invites God to heal what we cannot fix by ourselves. With time and faith, the wound becomes a testimony instead of a source of bitterness.
Jesus taught clearly about forgiveness.
Matthew 6:14, the Bible says, “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”
This shows that forgiveness is deeply connected to our relationship with God. When we refuse to forgive, we block our own spiritual growth. But when we forgive, we reflect the heart of our Father.
The Bible also reminds us how often we should forgive.
Matthew 18:21–22, Jesus said, “I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”
This does not mean we count the number of times; it means forgiveness should have no limit. Just as God’s mercy toward us is abundant, our mercy toward others should overflow.
