Despite being a small town, Cafayate in Salta has a lot to offer. My planned stay was for two weeks, so I had plenty of time to make a few things. The good thing is that most of these interesting things were not so far away, and many of them could be reached on foot or after a short transfer by car. Also, the weather in this part of the province is quite dry in the spring, so every day was good for being outdoors. On my list of things to do during this trip I had many wine establishments to attend, but there was one that was a little different that I definitely wanted to see: Cafayate Goats 😃.

A pesar de ser un pueblo pequeño, Cafayate en Salta tiene varias cosas para ofrecer. Mi estadía planeada era de dos semanas, así que tenía tiempo suficiente como para hacer unos cuantos paseos. Lo bueno la mayoría de estas cosas interesantes no estaban tan lejos, y a muchas de ellas se podía llegar caminando o después de un pequeño traslado en auto. Además, el clima en esta parte de la provincia es bastante seco en la primavera, por lo que todos los días acompañaban para estar al aire libre. En mi lista de cosas para hacer durante este viaje tenía muchos establecimientos de vino a los cuales asistir, pero había uno de ellos un poco diferente que sin dudas quería conocer: Cabras de Cafayate 😃.

--- --- This place is located one and a half kilometres from the town of Cafayate, on a very nice road through the mountains that leads you to it. It is a farm-like establishment that offers guided tours and where you can also buy wine and cheeses of their own production. I had already planned to visit this place at some point during my stay, and so I did. The day before this visit, my colleague at the hostel and I had met a Dutch guest, who took us for a ride in his car to the sand dunes in the area. Later in the evening, the three of us went for dinner and there we met two other friends of his from Uruguay, so the table became international and interesting 😃.

Este lugar queda a un kilómetro y medio del pueblo de Cafayate, en un camino muy lindo entre montañas que te conduce hasta él. Se trata de un establecimiento tipo granja que cuenta con visitas guiadas y en el lugar también se puede comprar vino y quesos de producción propia. Yo ya tenía pensado visitar este lugar en algún momento de mi estadía, y así fue. El día anterior a esta visita, mi compañera de trabajo en el hostel y yo habíamos conocido a un huésped holándes, quien nos llevó a pasear en su auto hasta los médanos de la zona. Más tarde por la noche, fuimos los tres a cenar y ahí nos encontramos con otros dos amigos suyos de Uruguay, así que la mesa se hizo internacional e interesante 😃.

--- Although we were a group of five at dinner, the Dutch guest approached me and asked if I had plans for the evening of the next day. I told him that I didn't yet, but that I would have time because I only had to work in the morning. There he told me about his intention to go to that place, Cafayate Goats, and I told him that I had heard about it, that it sounded interesting. He then proposed that we go together, which sounded good to me, although I was a bit embarrassed. The invitation was only for me, even though I was next to my work colleague, with whom we had also spent the afternoon 😅.

A pesar de que éramos un grupo de cinco durante la cena, el huésped holandés se acercó a mí y me preguntó si tenía planes para la tarde del día siguiente. Yo le dije que aún no, pero que sí tendría tiempo porque solo me tocaba trabajar en la mañana. Ahí me comentó su intención de ir hasta ese lugar, Cabras de Cafayate, y yo le dije que ya había escuchado sobre él, que sonaba interesante. Entonces me propuso ir juntos, lo que sonó bien para mí, aunque me dio un poco de vergüenza. La invitación era solo para mí, aún estando al lado de mi compañera de trabajo, con quien también habíamos pasado la tarde 😅.

--- The next day, my co-worker, he and I had lunch together, but then the two of us went to this place alone. Although he is from the Netherlands, his Spanish was at a very good level and we were able to have many interesting conversations. The day was beautiful and after a walk through the vineyards, we arrived at a place that looked like a farm. We paid a ticket of 5000 ARS each ($5), which included a guided tour of the facilities and a wine and cheese tasting at the end of the tour, and we were shown the famous goats that give the place its name. It seemed an adequate price for everything we were going to do 😃.

Al día siguiente, mi compañera de trabajo, él y yo almorzamos juntos, pero después nosotros dos nos fuimos solos hasta este lugar. A pesar de que él es de Países Bajos, su español era de muy buen nivel y pudimos tener muchas conversaciones interesantes. El día estaba hermoso y después de una caminata entre los viñedos, llegamos hasta el lugar que parecía una granja. Pagamos un ticket de 5000 ARS cada uno ($5), el cual incluía una visita guiada por las instalaciones y nos mostrarían las famosas cabras que le dan el nombre a este lugar, además de una degustación de vino y quesos al finalizar el recorrido. Me pareció un precio adecuado para todo lo que íbamos a hacer 😃.

--- During the visit we were told that all these goats produce milk from which they then make their traditional cheeses on site. In addition, the company, which has grown over the years, also owns a wine cellar and a restaurant where they sell their products, as well as the counter sales that they have on the farm. It was very interesting to see all those goats of different sizes living together, there were some very baby goats that were very tender and you could tell that they were used to people because they did not hesitate to approach them 😃.

En la visita nos contaron que todas estas cabras son productoras de leche con las cuales después hacen sus tradicionales quesos en el lugar. Además, la empresa que fue creciendo con los años, también es dueña de una bodega y de un restaurante en donde venden sus productos, además de la venta al mostrador que tienen en esa granja. Fue muy interesante ver a todas esas cabras de distintos tamaños convivir entre ellas, habían unas muy bebés que eran muy tiernas y se notaba que estaban acostumbradas a la gente porque no dudaban en acercarse 😃.

--- At the end of the visit, we went to claim our wine and cheese tasting, which was also very good. We were given four different varieties of goat cheese, plus a glass of wine each. In order to try everything, we chose a red and a white wine and shared them. We also had the company of a small kitten, who, although he had an antisocial face, was very affectionate with us. It was a good afternoon indeed, I was glad I didn't go alone, I don't think it would have been as entertaining 😅.

Al finalizar la visita, fuimos a reclamar nuestra degustación de vino y quesos, la cuál estuvo muy buena también. Nos dieron cuatro variedades diferentes de queso de cabra, además de una copa de vino a cada uno. Para poder probar todo, nos elegimos un vino tinto y uno blanco y lo compartimos. También tuvimos la compañía de un pequeño gatito, que aunque tenía cara de antisocial, fue muy cariñoso con nosotros. Fue una buena tarde en verdad, me alegré de no haber ido sola, creo que no hubiese sido tan entretenido 😅.

--- When we got back to the hostel, we walked around and talked about everything, until I don't know at what point the conversation turned to the fact that he liked me. I would like to say that I didn't realise this but a girl always realises it hahahaha. Luckily for him (😂) I thought he was cute too, so I told him it was reciprocal. It was a bit awkward that moment but funny and we kept walking, until he asked me if he could kiss me and I said yes. Maybe it was the heat and the glass of wine that made me dare, but I'm glad I said yes because after that came a lot of memorable memories with him :) ❤️.

Cuando volvíamos de nuevo al hostel, fuimos caminando y hablando de todo un poco, hasta que no sé en qué momento, la conversación derivó en que yo le gustaba. Me gustaría decir que no me di cuenta de esto pero una chica siempre se da cuenta jajajaja. Para su suerte (😂) él también me parecía lindo, así que le dije que era recíproco. Fue un poco incómodo ese momento pero gracioso y seguimos caminando, hasta que me preguntó si me podía besar y le dije que sí. Quizás fue el calor y la copa de vino que me hicieron atreverme, pero me alegra de haber dicho que sí porque después de eso vinieron muchos recuerdos memorables con él :) ❤️.

--- Although this story lasted from the end of August to mid-December and we were in contact throughout that time, he never stopped being listed on my mobile phone as ‘name+Cafayate’, because that's where we met. He was amused that I had his contact listed like that, but I think it was proof of my naivety at the time, that I didn't expect anything more special to happen. I really liked how it all came about from that, and these travel anecdotes are the ones I like the most. I'm glad I was in the right place at the right time for these things to happen 😃.

Si bien esta historia se extendió desde fines de agosto hasta mediados de diciembre y en todo ese tiempo estuvimos en contacto, en mi celular él nunca dejó de estar agendado como "nombre+Cafayate", porque ahí fue que nos conocimos. Le causaba gracia que tuviese su contacto agendado así, pero me parece una prueba de mi ingenuidad en ese momento, de que no esperaba que nada más especial suceda. Me gustó mucho como se dio todo a partir de eso, y estas anécdotas de viaje son las que más me gustan. Me alegra haber estado en el lugar y en el momento correcto para que sucedan 😃.
