Okay, so fortnightly updates feel good right now… Maybe that will change, maybe not… hard to say yet.
Curie hasn’t been around, so not sure if I’ve fallen off their radar at last, or whether they’re up to something… But
CreativeCoin liked the latest legend I’ve written, The Curse of the Blue Goddess - telling a little about one of the most mysterious characters in my stories and what she’s doing on Terrenden… It’s always good to get a glimpse into what the gods and goddesses have been up to.
Scribbleguild curated Ch. 17 of Name of the Neví
Also a couple visits from C-squared and CreativeCrypto magazine, but it’s been pretty quiet.
September totals…
Nearly 38,000 words written in September. An average of over 9k per week, so overall gains, but not everything was on the current work-in-progress. At the beginning of October, I was only 6 weeks ahead of the game for posts on Steem, so I am running out of time to avoid any gaps in the storytelling…
However, this week was really good, I hit the ground running on Monday and it just kept flowing this week – nice!
This week, I managed to write…
Over 15,000 new words! (Plus almost 4,000 last week)
- **Neví 5 received almost 9000 of that bringing it to 37,000 words now (That’s after tearing about 7k out last week…) This one is nearing completion – probably right around 40k words.
- **Neví 6 received 1700 words, some of which had already been written for a challenge and got put in here… **Neví 6 follows on from both **Neví 5 and **Name of the Neví
- **The Curse of the Blue Goddess got 900 words
- A new **Dark romance set – which I might play with a bit more – received about 3500 words.
NANOWRIMO…
Every November, there is a writing challenge – to write a novel in a month (defined as 50,000 words – about 1700 words/day - in this case…)
I’ve tentatively decided to use this as an excuse to get Freyja’s Fire done – some of you might remember Brighid’s Blood where I jumped way back in time to the beginning of everything… Freyja’s Fire is meant to happen a year or two later – when a stray ship washes onto the shore...
Anyway, I met up with some local-to-me authors last weekend to get inspiration and pointers – and simply to meet people. Other than the rather lackluster writing sprints (but I was fatiguing from wheat as well – see my health post this week)… it was a good time and I felt that I left with new friends.
Next weekend, we have our second meeting and I’m really looking forward to it.
Reading this week
Every author should also be a reader. It helps to inspire new ideas and gets a feel for how other people do things – whether you like them or not. One of my favorite authors from the past year or so is Kay Hooper. I found her earlier romances in the laundry room and I’ve made a point to watch for more of her writing. Now, I know there’s a huge collection of her work at the library, so I’m going to read them all!
This morning, I finished one of her romantic suspense novels Amanda" which follows a woman’s return to her old stomping grounds only to find that most don’t believe she is who she says she is…
It was a good book, though I found that the author held back too much relevant info from the main character’s mind early on… The reader is left (at times) wondering whether the main character is who she says she is… maybe that’s what Kay intended, but I found that part a little disconcerting – though reminiscent of an Agatha Christie novel where she writes from the point of view of the killer!
All in all, I highly recommend this book – and others by Kay Hooper.

The draconian measures (829 T.C.E.) have caused major distress throughout the world, perfect for giving the Neví a further foothold on the Terrenden stage. Will the A’mara, now removed from the Council of Peers, be able to shut down the Neví before disaster strikes? We will also meet Celna Dellan in X'lea; Peri Harmon, a Peer Councilor in Irola; Janys Tyne, an elections team leader in Atrua; meet a nice (as of yet unnamed) woman in Kasago; and revisit Vissia and Catalia in Towani. |
