"Life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences. But rather, it is a tapestry of events that culminate in an exquisite, sublime plan."

ā€” Dean Kansky, Serendipity 2001

The 2001 American romantic comedy movie "Serendipity" directed by Peter Chelsom is a tale that makes the viewers believe and have faith in "destiny". The movie takes its title from two sources: the meaning that the word embodies "a fortunate accident", and the real-life dessert shop in Manhattan where Sara Thomas (Kate Beckinsale) and Jonathan "Jon" Trager (John Cusack) shared their first dessert together in the movie. The second source puts the movie in the same kind as other films based on actual locations like "Coyote Ugly" which was based on the actual Coyote Ugly Saloon.

The unforgettable night began when Jon and Sara met while shopping for gloves at Bloomingdale's in New York. They both accidentally grabbed for the last pair of black cashmere gloves at the same time. Jon's unselfishness prevailed and gave way for Sara to have the pair of gloves. To thank Jon for his generosity, Sara took him to a dessert shop called Serendipity. Despite the fact that they were both in a relationship with other people at the time, they spent and had a great night together. Sara, a fatalist, was about to give her phone number to Jon, but when he got to get a hold of the piece of paper on which the phone number was written, the wind blew it from his hand. Sara, then, saw this as a sign that they were not meant to be together. She thought to let fate do its work. So, she asked Jon to write his name and number on a five-dollar bill that she spent later on, and she wrote hers in a book called "Love in the Time of Cholera" which was about to be handed-off to a used-book seller. If the five-dollar bill will find its way back to Sara's hand, and so does the book to Jon, then they're meant to be together.

A few years later, when Jon was engaged to Halley (Bridget Moynahan), he was suddenly thinking a lot about Sara. Sara, on the other hand, was also engaged to Lars (John Corbett), but she was starting to wonder about Jon. With only little information about the other, they set off individually to find the clues that will lead them to each other.

This film is a total package and a total treat for the eyes with the casts great performances, together with the film's cinematography, which captures New York City as a dreamy wonderland with twinkling lights and falling snow, and its splendidly written scripts and story line that really keeps the viewers excited and entertained. John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale really portrayed their roles well and both had an outstanding and persuasive acting.

Molly Shannon and Jeremy Piven also did great in their turns as supporting actress and actor. Both of them portrayed a very supportive bestfriends to Cusack and Beckinsale respectively.

This movie ignites the tiny spark in every person to believe in love, destiny, and serendipity.

If you want to watch romantic comedy movies that are real entertainment and makes you laugh, cry and fall inlove, then this movie is surely in my reccommendations list!

10/10 would definitely watch again. :)
