I don't really write poems, altough I love writing lyrics for the songs I compose on my guitar. Sadly, I cannot remember how to play this particular song, but, when a door closes a window of opportunity opens. So, seeing as I can remember exactly what the lyrics were about, I decided to turn it into a poem.
It's a sad poem and it is titled:
"Legends broke this way"
In a whale of a moment
Truth be told
Nervous endings
Damn near unfold
Desert in the sunshine
Teeter on the brink
Allow us to persuade you
Clever with a wink
No need to paint our sunsets
To remain in our good faith
Swim the muddy waters
And revel in your stains
Sentimental suffer
Medication drunk
Pass out on your back and
Six feet under sunk
The poem is about how many artists, particularly entertainers, live a double life. How they are able to put up a great show, but suffer in silence behind the scenes, struggling with depression, anxiety and many other unfortunate afflictions that cause them torment. I grew up battling anxiety and depression and when I wrote this song at the age of 25 I was finally getting past the worst of my own struggle. It made me think of the many artists we've lost over the years who, unfortunately, did not break out of the struggle. The legends we've lost because they finally broke. That made me feel fortunate and sad at the same time. I particularly had Jimi Hendrix in mind at the time, hence the last paragraph.
Please feel free to ask me anything else about the poem in the comments section below, I'd be happy to share more. Follow me to stay tuned for more :)
