Deadly nightshade has poisonous red berries. The juice of these berries is used to make the drug atropine which makes the pupil bigger for eye examinations. In the Middle Agnes women put this juice in their eyes to make their pupils wider and more attractive which is why the plant is also called 'belladonna' from the Italian for beautiful woman.
