Remembering Blue Meanie's Real Fight With JBL

The year was 2005 and the WWE was presenting "ECW One Night Stand." A brawl was staged to happen between the WWE and ECW stars. The ring was filled with superstars. However, there was nothing staged about the fight between the Blue Meanie and JBL. Meanie's face was noticeably bloodied when the brawl ended. Meanie had staples in his head from a previous match on a previous day and JBL decided to target those staples with his fists.

On the Talk Is Jericho Podcast, Meanie explained, "I did an interview when I left WWE. I said, 'I had a great time in WWE. I saw the world. I got paid to see the world on Vince McMahon's dime.' I thanked WWE. I was like, 'the only thing is JBL was kind of an asshole.' During my whole tenure there from '98 to 2000, it was like , I don't want to say, like, hazing, but bullying. Whether it would be shots in a match or we'd be on a plane and he's telling a story about some fat fuck, you know he's referencing you."

Needless to say, the word spread to JBL that the Blue Meanie is calling him a bully, so the former WWE champ decided to exact some revenge on the Blue Guy during the planned brawl at the end of the pay-per-view. According to an interview with Braeden Farrell for prowrestlingstories.com, Meanie said that after the WWE stitched him up, they doubled his pay for the evening. Also, not to miss an opportunity for a great storyline, a future SmackDown episode featured a match between the Blue Meanie and JBL. Receiving assistance from Batista and Stevie Richards, Blue Meanie won that match. However, revenge was had when Richards delivered a shockingly stiff chair shot to JBL's head breaking him open. Blurring the lines between what is real and what is planned is one of the great aspects of professional wrestling.
