What Does The UK Really Spend On An Engagement Ring?

For decades there has been a general consensus in the UK that you should spend 2-3 months' salary on an engagement ring. According to Brides.com, this is an 'unwritten rule', which has persisted since the 1970's - with its roots coming from a TV advert at the time.

While this 'rule' is thought to be accepted by most people, the team over at Hipper.com decided to find out if the UK actually follows it. Completing a survey of 2,000 people across the United Kingdom, Hipper set out to discover how much the UK is really spending on an engagement ring.

They found that the population is actually spending well below this 2-3x salary everyone expects, in fact spending only 0.57x wages on average. You can see the full results of their survey in the infographic below:
