Ulog #2: Road Trip for the Soul

Why do people go on road trips? Usually for fun, leisure or just to bond with each other. You can choose the music to jam to, laugh with each other’s jokes, tell stories, stop for food, shoot some pictures of the spectacular views and so on and so forth.

Sure, road trips are fun but have you ever had a road trip that filled your spiritual soul and opened your mind while giving you hope and faith to your heart? As a matter of fact, I just had one today.

We went to the Monastery of the Holy Eucharist a.k.a Simala Church – the name that the locals use. If ever you find yourself in the Philippines, put this location on your Places-to-Visit list. This is located in Sibonga Town, Southern Cebu.

My companions in this road trip are some of my family relatives. They are also very religious and rich in faith. Here is a picture of us. I am the one with the white shirt and nude colored cap, by the way.

We drove for 3 hours to reach this blessed place. Truth be told, it was all worth it.

Here are some reasons why you should pay this place a visit too.

1. Majestic, Inside and Out

The architectural details takes you to a whole new world. It is delicate and intricate at the same time, from the ground that you step on to the tip of the building. Outside is a fresh breath of its spacious, spectacular green scenery. You can find religious sculptures inside and the story of it. Your breath will surely be taken away. You’d always want to take out your camera and shoot some pictures.

2. Best Place for Prayers

The vibe is truly calm and peaceful. The pilgrims are respectful enough not to make sounds that could disturb anyone. Silence is observed. The devotees are also very hospitable to guide you to make the most out of your prayer experience. Once again, the wonderful sculptures are there to add to the holiness of the place. Pieces of papers are also given to you for you to write your petitions on. After going out of the place, you’d surely feel like a new and blessed person.

3. Grants Miracles

It grants miracles. I am not joking. My mother testifies to that. In fact, thousands of people can testify to that, from healed diseases, board passers, financial problems and so on and so forth. Actually, there are people who send thanksgiving letters, souvenirs, medals, pictures, wheelchairs to the church. The latter are being displayed on the testimony board for the pilgrims to read and view.

Additional Notes:

• Be sure to observe proper dress code or lend a ‘sarong’ that are provided to you outside the church.
• Bring snacks and some foods along the way because you’re going to have a long ride.
• Bring umbrella or hats, it’s going to be hot.
• Have some cash and maybe buy some rosary bracelets or two.

Takeaway

You can never dislike a place like this. You’d feel blessed and fresh spiritually after. For sure, it is a road trip for the soul.

Lots of love,
Belle
