ULOG #12 - #Ulog Doodle Contest My Entry

IMG_20180724_030245_7.jpg

This is my entry to @phantum04 's #ULOG Doodle contest with the theme "Tears"

I can't decide if it looks better uncolored or colored, so here's the piece before I colored it.

I'm such a nerd for details, and I love doodling. Thanks to @maverickinvictus for featuring this on your weekly list of contests. I always run to your posts to see if I can join any. Its been very useful.

Anyway, Here's my process and some explanation. Generally (If you don't want the long heartfelt explanation), It's just an amalgamation of things that makes us cry, from simple things such as onions, to something much much deeper such as our dreams, our fears, anxiety, our memories, and the like. These are parts of who we are, and we can share in #ULOGs since there will surely be people who can relate and accept us.

Without further ado:

The first teardrop sketch

I started putting the ocean as the sky. (haha, try to think about the backstory behind that, I won't share it)

When I run out of ideas, I start marking down with pen (I used Pilot Gtech black, Pt 3)

An octopus tentacle holding out an umbrella for a distressed girl. I know artists (WOW artist) shouldn't explain their art (art??) to the viewers for the meaning is for them to find out. But for me, that girl is the always anxious part of me, being nurtured by... stuff.. like an octopus I guess?

A camera, because I'm "allergic" to cameras, but deeply, its a symbol for social media and its negative impact on us.. A message in the bottle.

Onion.. Childhood memories

We ate lunch, and my six-year-old brother is inspired and is drawing too. I've been teaching him about cell sites, transformers, satellites, and signal transfer. He was very interested and is drawing... well, cell sites and power lines.

I then added a girl, crying, with the stitches on her hairline, snapping off and all the other stuff in the huge teardrop is from her mind. The memories, anxieties, dreams, hopes, etc.. I just though of it later that night, and was excited because it made all the other elements coherent.

Converse shoes, because I no longer have a usable rubber shoes. But also, for our travels and adventures. Eyes, for the truth.... because the truth hurts.

Headphones for our music choices. (attached to the whale's blowhole, because it makes us wail, no pun intended)

Doodling with Ariana Grande, Mayday Parade, Seafret, and Kodaline in my ears.
