Ulog - What Poetry Meant To Me

I’ve had difficulty writing basically anything (yes, including this one!) but I learned to follow where my heart takes me to. I find great joy in writing especially poetry but I really suck at journalism. No matter, using words to express one’s feelings bring relief and satisfaction.

Like songs, poems turn something aesthetic such as emotions to something visually and aurally appealing. It also produces music on its own. A music that brings the author and the reader to a world where only both can relate to. This is the world where they are connected through words even though they do not know each other. The author creates symphony through words and the readers sing with him. The subtle use of words define the uncertain yet waiting to be known. Love is the subject used by many because it never EVER grows old. Everybody loves. Everybody has been loved. I have my fair share of my own pieces which I hope would be read by people someday.

When someone writes, that piece becomes part of the world. Maybe not of the whole wide world but of the world to whom the poem should be given to. I like to believe that regardless if the poem is read or not, it will still be part of that person’s world; he isn’t just aware of it. A lot of poetry has stayed and has been remembered by many such as those created by the great poets. Many years after my death, I hope someone would discover my works and be appalled, see it as something beautiful and share it to others, something I am scared to do today. I want people to love it, say something about it, appreciate it, feel what I felt when writing it.

We write for many different reasons. I write to make my heart going. It is one of the ways that make me feel I am truly alive. The words I have strung together are a manifestation that I can create something beautiful and, that I can use to connect it to people and that people can connect to me. It is such a wonderful art. I write when I am happy or sad. I write because my heart tells me to. Even though there are times I have no way of knowing what to write, I just let words flow and take me to a place where I know I am happy to be. It is soothing to read poetry that are written from the bottom of the author’s heart. A person need not have a degree in order to write beautifully. It is with passion we continue to do so regardless of our own hesitations.

Poetry is an art. For some, it is a means to live. For some, it is a way to live. Whatever language we use, whatever kind or type of poetry we adopt, whoever we find as an inspiration, as long as it is from our hearts, it is as beautiful as the author. Poetry is a therapy that heals hearts and souls. It gives away bad feelings and lets the good energy enter just so that we could be happy again. Isn’t it amazing? Words that can cause harm to people can also be the words that can touch them as long as we use it the right way.

If you made it this far, thank you very much. Here is something I wrote as a token of gratitude. I hope you like it.

I Love You

Your laughter is my music;
Your smile is my art;
Your eyes are my stars;
You are the universe I crave;
My all day sunshine;
The yin in my yang;
I love you.
