Wohoo! Just got home from a long day 😉 Hope you are all doing fine Steemians! Guess what, I found a precious jewel today!! 😍😱
But let me start off with what happenned today: First, my husband and I took a leave from our office ti assist our visitors who are his first cousins with his nephew and niece. It has been decades since they last visited Palawan so we tried to accommodate their request even for one day.
Without a service vehicle, we became a normal commuter-tourist in the city 😉 It is much cheaper but you would really exert some effort but it's worth 👍
First stop: The Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center (PWRCC).
The kids enjoyed the tour and they were really fascinated with the animals, especially the big saltwater crocodiles (crocodylus porosus). We saw some bearded pigs, talking mynahs, blue - naped parrots, Palawan hornbill, Palawan porcupine, serpent eagles, leopard cats, sea eagles, reticulated pythons and more! These animals are mostly rescued from poachers thus they are currently being taken care of until they are strong enough to be brought back into the wild. (Though sometimes, there are cases where some animals are kept in captivity due to their adaptation with their enclosures and new environment. Since they will have slim chances og survivung in the wild, they will be kept and taken care of in the center.)
But back to the kids, they really had so much fun. My daughter, who had this first time encounter with these animals, was so curious and excited at the same time. She was very fond of the birds and raptors but she was also fascinated with the bearcat which even approached and seemed to "greet" her. Aaaaw... hiw sweet of that! 💓
Just look at her smile! Hello there Sus ahoenobarbus at the back 😉
After that, we tried to visit Baker's Hill. This time, we tried to look at the peacock pheasants. They are really beautiful and colorful as well.
This one is a male. Male avians in general have the most beautiful and colorful feathers. This is to attract females as mate. Females usually have less vibrant to dull colors as compared to males.
My daughter was so excited upon seeing the pheasant up close but unluckily, that same bird cackled so loud that the other members of the flock resounded and answered back. It was a nice music to my ear, listening to a sound made by an endangered bird species that only a few people can actually witness but to our surprise, our little nibble was shocked with the loud sound thus she started crying.
Poor little Samantha, she was really scared. We tried to walk a few meters away from the peacocks so that she will start focusing on other things found in the park buy everytime she hears tha cackles from afar, she will start crying again 😭
We tried to transfer to another section of the park where she can enjoy the different life size Disney Characters displays and other colorful statues, and good thing she was able to forget about the peacocks and started enjoying the tour again.
This was really tiring but our daughter really enjoyed eveything (except the cackling). We saw how happy she was as we walk through the park. She was so excited that she kept on wiggling in our arms, trying to make her few steps to learn how to walk because she really wanted to play with other kids in the ground. It felt so nice that I really felt that it is more than worth my leave at work.
Yes, that's the jewel we found today: the gem of happiness brought to us by this simple family bonding which is priceless. It is more than what money can offer and I wish we could still have this time together in the future. 💓
Till my next ulog guys!
Warm hugs,
Green Glitter
