Just after we finished the Gey 311 {Sedimentary basin of africa} class,we were informed to all converge at GEOPHYSICS CENTRAL laboratory for a pratical class about the Magnetometer, which is an intrument that is used to measure the magnetic susceptibility of a rock or a given geographical area.
Actually, this is my first time in the central laboratory,at first i was a bit anxious and we were to trek down to the lab. this is the outside view of the laboratory and its present at the Tetfund 2010 project building.
After the arrival of all studentthe practical began. The lecturer in charge was Dr. M.B Aminu......firstly he showed us the casing of the Magnetometer, the type magnetometer present in the laboratory was PROTON PRECESSION MAGNETOMETER,because they are of 3 types
- Fluxgate magnetometer
- Proton precession magnetometer
- Alkali vapour magnetometer
Inside the casing we have the proton precession magnetometer., Dr. Aminu explained how it is used on the field work,it also has a sensor which helps to recieve data on the field, the sensor is white in colour mounted on the staff carried about on the field to know about the magnetic field of an area.
The lecture came to an end by drawing the proton precession magnetometer along with the sensor and staff, then it was submitted for markingThis the proton precession magnetometer
After the practical class,Dr. Aminu said our next class will be our first semester test in EXPLORATION GEOPHYSICS
Then we all went to our various home
