Dear Steemit friends and followers,

Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.

Today, I will introduce you to another charming little Czech town, the town of Litomysl.

Located in the Pardubice Region, some 135 km (85 mi) east of Prague, Litomysl is a picturesque historic town with a population of approximately 10,000 people.

Founded as early as in 981, the town is dominated by the famous Litomysl Castle, a majestic Renaissance chateau-type castle complex found in the center of the town that is currently listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Built in the second half of the 16th century, the castle is renowned for its breathtaking architecture but also as the birthplace of Bedrich Smetana, one of the most famous Czech composers of all time.

However, Bedrich Smetana is not the only notable person associated with Litomysl. The town was home to several other prominent figures of Czech history, such as the renowned authors Alois Jirasek and Bozena Nemcova, the painter Josef Vachal or the sculptor Olbram Zoubek.
