Anuradhapura is one of the old capitals of Sri Lanka, renowned for its all around saved remnants of an antiquated Sri Lankan human progress. It was the third capital of the Kingdom of Rajarata, following the kingdoms of Tambapanni and Upatissa Nuwara.
The city, now an UNESCO World Heritage Site, was the focal point of Theravada Buddhism for a long time. The city lies 205 km (127 mi) north of the present capital Colombo in Sri Lanka's North Central Province, on the banks of the noteworthy Malvathu Oya.
