So today is a quick peek at a world famous natural site here in the UK. Durdle Door is a natural lime stone formation off the coast of Dorset in the South West of the UK. For decades it has attracted everyone from movie makers, tourist, musicians, artists, and dumb ass people who stupidly climb on top of the jutting rock and jump. So from the bright to the dull basically. Tears for fears filmed shout here for those of you who were 80's kids. It's a great song, but once stuck in your head I'm convinced the only way to get it out is with a bullet. .. But it was a good track.
Whats fascinating about this area isn't just this site. The whole ecosystem is incredibly unique as well as it's geology. If you're big into lobster this is the place to trap them. If you're into quiet natural beauty, then this is the place to spend an evening picnicking during the autumn harvest moon. In fact from here westward along the cliffs things grow increasingly beautiful. In my younger years I walked the coast from Kent to Cornwall, and stopped here to bath after wrapping up my camp site one morning. Dawn here will always be one of my favourite memories.
However this visit was quick as the owner was intending to shut it due to numbers and people acting like dozy morons. The beach was thinning out as people returned back home after their day out, so I jumped out as I wanted to put it on pinmapple. I'm coming back when things are less mad and crowded to do more. But for now it's just a few shots of the coast and the rock formation.
What was a shame was that for the most part folks were enjoying themselves. It was the odd drunken lout who stupidly was climbing up on the rocks to jump off that was raising health and safety concerns. We have had air rescue out a lot down here since lock down eased due to people injuring themselves "tomb stoning". That's basically when someone climbs clear up to the top and hops off. The problem is most don't know how to gauge depth and often perform this act when the tide is heading out. It's a quick tide down this way so when one person jumps off, and their idiot of a friend follows suit 15 minutes later the depth is no longer there which results in a wet splat and crack.... Guess that's society today though.. no shortage of lemmings looking for cliffs.
Anyways this was just a quick post and some pics for you guys. If you guys are ever to visit here do it in the autumn. The water is warmer and the people fewer. There will be a revisit to this place accompanied by extensive background and more detailed photos later. But for now this is it.
