Tarsiers are very small animal. Their body is no more than a palm of an adult human. They are adorable yet shy.You can find them in mountainous parts of Bohol where they freely live. But at present you can hardly find one so better go to their sanctuary.

In Bohol, there are two centers that serves as their sunctuaries which protects them, since they are in dangered species. Tarsier Sunctuary of Canapnapan Corilla, Bohol and Tarsier Sunctuary and Conservation, Upper Bonbon Loboc Bohol.

We've visited at the Tarsier Sunctuary and Conservation of Loboc Bohol. It is just an hour drive from Tagbilaran City. And we are living not far from the place. It is also near at the man made forest of Billar Bohol. As we arrived at the area there were staff that serves as your guide and explained all the do's and don't while you are roaming around. According to them some of these Tarsiers are turned over by the owner (the one who captured them in the wild). The staff are also responsible in feeding and taking care of them.
The staffs will always remind you the following,

  • do not touch them
  • do not use a camera with a flash
  • do not get to much close
  • do not make any noise

Tarsiers are very sensitive and easily get nervous. That's why the staffs are always looking forward for their security and comfort.

Facts about Tarsiers

According to the staff, Tarsier's mesmerizing eyes is actually heavier than their brain. If only they were not nocturnal we could have witnessed them jump high from tree to tree. Yet sadly they slept at day most of the time.

Amazingly!Tarsier are carnivorous unlike monkeys. They eat only insects or small frogs. In terms of reproduction, they only bear one baby per year in which their pregnancy took only for six months.

Ola! Tarsiers also are prone to suicide. They will end their life mostly if captured. Aside from breaking their head, they do not eat well in captivity that lead them to death.
