When most people think of Belize they think of the keys. Belize is a snorkeling paradise. We spent a few nights on the Caribbean then we headed off to the jungle for the weekend. The place we stayed is called Caves Branch It's famous for the jungle activities, in particular tubing through a cave system.
The resort was beautiful, it was a jungle garden with private cabins, cabanas, tree houses and a public pool and eating area. It's remote, in the central American jungle so there aren't many options asides from on site for eating. We went here for a few days to be at one with nature. Greenery was everywhere and it is my idea of a tropical paradise.
Howler Monkeys would scream during the night and the sound of birds filled the air. The place is located next to the river which makes it famous and they offer a plethora of activities. We just relaxed on the resort for the weekend and went for self directed walks. There is more than enough to do here for a few days.
At the entrance to the Caves Branch resort area there is a cenote, called the Inland Blue Hole, in St. Hermans Cave national park. We walked here and paid the nominal entrance fee. The swimming was incredible, it's similar to the cenotes near the Mexican Riviera.
There were many hiking paths in the area but we were wearing sandals. Hiking in the jungle with sandals is a bad idea but taking a dip in a cool cenote is the best idea possible. We also swam in the river next to the resort. The resort pools was welcoming but nothing beats clean natural fresh water.
Jungle sunsets are just as gorgeous as beach ones. Next time we are back in central America we will combine the sea with the jungle, it's the way to go.
