Beast Embraces

Bluebird gets cold in the night,
even when she ruffles her feathers.
And the wind doesn't help, when in flight;
especially in the winter's weathers.

So she looks for a way to be warm.
She tries to find a spot to settle.
She hurries before she's caught by the storm,
and makes a nest out of straw and nettle.

Away from the rain,
sheltered by a tree,
She's feeling cold-pains,
with the plummeting degrees.

Suddenly, a wolf appears from the shadows.
But she has seen this wolf before.
In fact, he's the reason for the scars on her elbows,
An encounter she did not care for.

But the wind grows stronger,
The temperature drops.
Then night grows longer,
And her conscience tells her to stop.

But suddenly, the beast embraces the bird.
And they share a tender moment.
Neither of them dare to utter a word,
As they're both too warm to come up with a comment.

But the wolf grows wary of hurting her,
as his hunger overpowers his compassion.
So runs away in a silver blur,
leaving her in a lonely fashion.

What the wolf will never know is what it meant to her.
That the moment he gave her was like no other.
now she's scared no creature could possibly warm her,
and she's tempted to stay there and wallow in pother.
