UNIQUE AND UNUSUAL SNACKS TO TRY IN THAILAND

It’s probably hard to believe that in between all of the tasty Thai dishes we consume each day that we still have room to snack. Haha! So today I was doing my usual grocery shopping at Villa Market (Thailand supermarket). While walking down my favorite aisle which is the snacks section, I just thought I should share some of the unusual snacks here in Thailand to look out for, for those who are planning a trip here! They are so unique that you cant find them anywhere else and believe it or not, some Singaporeans come here specially to get them and swipe cartons of them back home!

So, lets start with my favorite shall we?

1. LITTLE FARM BREAD SNACK

These are tiny pieces of dry bread toasts that come in size of potato chip bag. Can you imagine eating garlic bread on a go? They come in a wide variety of flavours like pizza, garlic, buttered toast and tom yum. My favorite has to be the garlic flavor. The garlic taste is so strong and the bread is so crispy with a little taste of sweetness. They are just so yummy. But please be reminded that the garlic taste might linger in your mouth for a very long time. So you might need to brush your teeth after that and DO NOT EAT it before a date. You get what i mean..

Tip: Smash them into smaller pieces and use as topping for salads. Yumss..

2. TASTO POTATO CHIPS

Who doesn't love potato chips? Tasto has wide variety of flavours from international to local dishes.

My favorite is Pla Sam Rod flavor. Think of fish sauce, sweet, sour and spicy all in a single piece of chip. You get the idea..The flavour is so incredible, bet you cant stop at one..

3. TAO KAE NOI SEAWEED

Highly raved and popular seaweed snack. You can literally get them anywhere in Thailand, even in Singapore! I'm not sure about other countries thou. Anyway, they are so light yet so flavorful. I like them as a light snack before meal. The seaweed were dried and fried, make them very crispy and satisfying..

4. BENTO SQUID SEAFOOD SNACK

Some how thai snacks are always so flavorful that the taste might stuck in your mouth for the whole day. So make sure they are worth it. This is one I would totally eat if given to me at anytime of the day, not concerning that my mouth might smell funky after lol

These dried squid snacks come in big sheets too if you are feeling greedy! And don't be deceived by the harmless packaging.. They can be too spicy for you if you cant handle spiciness well. You have been warned lol
Tip: Dip them into cold water for a few second to make them really crispy!

5. HISO SILKWORM PURPAE AND CRICKETS

Of course it is not unusual to eat bugs in Thailand but these definitely look more appealing and appetitising than those you see at the night markets and they come in several enticing flavors like cheese and BBQ, if you are more adventurous, try the cricket. And probably I'm just a sucker for packaging. How can they taste bad with all these cute and colorful packaging right? So I have decided to give it a try. Just for you guys! The cricket one is a no-go for me cause seriously I'm really afraid of any kind of insects and crawlers especially cockroaches. So the crickets kinda look like the roaches.. so no no.. . Well well welL...I didn't expect them to be so big when I opened the bag! Gave me goosebumps for a second..But they are actually not that bad.. crunchy, salty and flavorful! Honestly, I only took a small bite so i can review on it. I don't think I can finish the whole piece at one go... Urgh.. You guys should give them a try and tell me your takes. They are great as souvenirs too if you are looking for something unique for your friends back home.

This is my all time favorite snack! Dried mango! I like this brand cause its not too sweet and artificial. Great snack for any occasion.
