THE SEIGE IN MARAWI, PHILIPPINES
The terrorists attacked on a bright and sunny day,
Civilians were killed along the way.
With a snap of time, they conquered the city,
Everyone with different beliefs kept on asking for pity.
A boy became an orphan losing his family in a war,
A young girl saw her friends shot with gun from a far,
A corpse of an infant was found on the ground,
An old man was crying for help yet nobody heard a sound.
The terrorists kept on asking questions and some people answered it right,
While people who got it wrong lost their life.
If there beliefs we’re different from the terrorists, they would be in danger,
The best thing a civilian can do was to ask help from a stranger.
The bombing and explosions are still on-going,
While the population of the dead keeps on increasing.
As the soldiers kept on saving,
The people’s hope for salvation was decreasing.
The hope that people held on was gone day by day,
They never knew when they might be okay.
It is depressing to think that a loved one died,
In the hands of a fellow human being filled with hatred and pride.
When did love lose over hatred and animosity?
When did racism outlast fairness and equality?
When did we let discrimination destroy our unity?
When did we lose our humanity?
