In this video I go over Part 6 of the Tengri 137 online cryptic series of alien math puzzles and calculations, and this time go over the solution of the custom MES puzzle that I gave to challenge our alien friends! I created the puzzle last week as a response to the previous challenge that Tengri gave to me, which I solved pretty quickly. This MES challenge was pretty unique and many people tried to solve it but only one was able to solve it! In fact Tengri was not able to solve it, but gave me a great thank you message instead! Thanks Tengri!

Behind the scenes though, I ā€œcolludedā€ with Quantum Cannibal to have his latest video made private, which gave me the idea for creating this puzzle. His video was on the cool property of using the ā€œMod()ā€ or ā€œModuloā€ operation in a Spreadsheet, which calculates the remainder of a division operation. Adding this remainder to the dividing number, known as the ā€œdivisorā€ or ā€œmodulusā€, we can get a new ā€œmodulusā€, which when kept repeating we obtain a summation that is a factor of the number we divided! This is a very cool property of the Modulo operation and it is used in many encryption and compression applications. This is a pretty obscure property, which may explain why Tengri was not able to solve it.

The puzzle I created had 7 such ā€œpathsā€ created using this modulo operation but with the seventh path left blank. Finding the method behind the 6 other paths, the next step would be to figure out all possible paths that could match the seventh path. @JohnLilburne517 was able to solve this using a quick C++ program he made! #Amazing #Congrats

Recall from Part 5, that #Tengri137 issued a math challenge to me, which I solved pretty quickly, and thus earning the respect of aliens! # TeamHumanity

But to take this intergalactic dance battle to the next level, I issued Tengri a challenge of my ownā€¦

Here is what I came up with:

Modulo operation

In computing, the modulo operation finds the remainder after division of one number by another (sometimes called modulus).

John got the method and path correct!

Basically all paths are constructed by first finding the remainder of a modulo operation, and then adding that remainder to the modulus of the previous step.

I will explain this in detail shortly.

I provide a quick proof of why the Modular function works, but I later realized that the proof is only correct for when the new divisor is NOT a factor of the number being divided.

I will look to make a video on this later, so stay tuned!

Let's take a closer look at the puzzle!

Let's first list all of the paths together.

Let's take a closer look at the second path:

We can save time by finding the remainder using the MOD() function in Excel!

Thus what we need is a path that has the third number is 7 and the sixth number is 42 and is a total of 10 numbers (or "steps") long!

We can do this through brute Spreadsheet force, to see that only a 50 and a 70 path are correct, but which the 50 path is already being used, thus we the 70 path is the one correct path!

If we just were to sum to 777 then we can in fact have infinite number of paths (assuming we could use negative numbers), hence the Biblical quote of following the narrow gateā€¦

We can also use math to narrow the options, but using a spreadsheet is easiest; I may do a video later on how to use math to simplify the search process.

And with that puzzle, we have saved humanity, but for how longā€¦ #TeamHumanity
