The great growth of social networks has definitely given us enormous power. Now we can all be street reporters, inquisitors whistleblowers, trolls and even stars. And is that our profiles in the networks are practically a bragging of our behavior in real life. But what could this mean, is this means that brings us 2.0 society has become or could become a dangerous power?
Through these digital platforms, such as social networks, today we can express ourselves, manifest ourselves and even mobilize people, make us feel our discomfort, or any other sensation we have regarding any government personality or any particular issue that affects us directly.
For example we have the case of Venezuela, where the media are censored and can not convey what happens, and it is precisely through social networks where we could really see the situation that is being lived. Through the aggression of the Venezuelan Government with the media, social networks became the best platforms for citizens to manifest themselves and for those who are abroad to be informed of what is really happening in Venezuela. Nowadays, it is known that these social networks allow Venezuelan citizens, for example, to know if there is bread in the corner shop or there is not, if there is oil in the supermarket two blocks away.
But this important medium by giving them the powerful tool of expression to citizens can be as effective as harmful. If you have a problem you can manifest it. Two messages that are transmitted through the network, are amplified to 10, 100 or million times. Even now there is the possibility of having the certainty that a message arrives directly to the recipient, you can send a message to a president through your twitter account, and you know that even if the president himself does not read it directly, you know that at least Someone will read it and get that message.
As a disadvantage this could be a big problem for communicators, as materially they can not be everywhere, now the media are using social media to see what happens in places where journalists are not. And is that the domino effect that social networks have that the contents that are published in these are virilicen soon after being released. And this has allowed from massive calls to marches, to successful advertising post exclusive to these media.
One of the advantages of citizenship through Social Networks is this deliberation in information, because this deliberation generates more debate, greater discussion, greater exchange of knowledge, thoughts and ideas, something that enriches us as people, And this is precisely what we are looking for, a society of knowledge, a digital society according to the democracy of the 21st century.
I conclude that Social Networks have made the personal into social and even have the power to make private a public matter in a matter of seconds. So we must be very careful about the things we post on our Social Networks. The key is, as always, in the use we give to these tools that have practically revolutionized our way of informing ourselves, communicating and above all expressing ourselves.
