Montfort: 'A Home truly Dear For Needy Youth'

Brief history about Montfort Youth Training Centre Sabah.

But first, let me talk about the founders and who is St.Louis Marie De Montfort.

St.Louis Marie

St. Louis Marie De Montfort was a Roman Catholic priest and Confessor. In his early life as a priest, he was one of the early writters of the field of Mariology as he was devoted and dedicated to the life of Blessed Mary.

St.Louis Marie devotion to Blessed Virgin Mary

“If, then, we establish solid devotion to our Blessed Lady, it is only to establish more perfectly devotion to Jesus Christ, and to provide an easy and secure means for finding Jesus Christ. If devotion to Our Lady removed us from Jesus Christ, we should have to reject it as an illusion of the devil; but so far from this being the case, devotion to Our Lady is, on the contrary, necessary for us—as I have already shown, and will show still further hereafter—as a means of finding Jesus Christ perfectly, of loving Him tenderly, of serving Him faithfully.”

St.Louis Marie De Montfort (1673-1716) went to western part of France to preach and along the course, he established a charitable school of needy children. St.Gabriel Brothers were the early followers of St. Louis Marie De Montfort.

At the end of 1936, Brothers of St. Gabriel arrived in Singapore and took over Holy Innocent English School (later known as Montfort school).

As the years went by, the mission grew and flourish, and until today, there were many Montfort schools such as Montfort Youth Training Sabah and Melaka, as well as Shah Alam Boy's Town.

Now, I want to talk about the Montfort Youth Training Centre (MYTC) in Sabah. On the 8th of January 2018, I went to undergo my training-on the-job in a 1 month and 1 weeks at MYTC. As far as what I've learned there, MYTC sabah was founded in June 1999 on a 1.1 site acre in Donggongon, Penampang, Sabah.

Picture on the right side is where the new site of MYTC . This is where the trainees went to their respective workshop and learn their skills courses.

The number of the first registered trainees were 15, and it increases over the time, with the steady support of the public, corporate sectors, individual donors, or as we called them the Friend's of Montfort, and Charitable Foundation, and this is where the exciting beginning of the journey of this establishment began.

In 2008, MYTC then changed again its location at Kinarut on a bigger site which is about 10 86 acres. There were 2 site in MYTC,which is the the residential care campus site (RCC) and Skills Development Centre site (RDC) which hosted 4 workshops that is :

RAMD (air-conditioning)

CARPENTRY

WELDING

AUTOMOTIVE

The focus of this establishment is to develop trainees into a better person, equipped with Character Formation, technical skills, discipline, and moral values for dignified living.

The overall duration for each courses is 2 years. After they completed their courses, they will receive a SKM level of certificate.
While trained there, I also learned a lot from the boys, their personal life, problems, and how they get into MYTC.

To know the boys deeper, we, as a Student Affair Officer , have to journey with them, so we are able to understand them. Most of the trainees come from a troublesome family background, divorced parents, orphanage,etc. And this is why Montfort is the right place for them, as the saying goes;

“A Home Truly Dear For Those Whom The World Neglected "

We are also a teacher to them, in terms of teaching them the perspective of life, advising them about the making good and bad decisions in life and as such.

Well, I guess this is the end. You can find more about the history & links below
