The last thing you might expect to find along this stretch of the California coast known for some of the best surfing in the country is a red double decker London bus.
But there it is, along with a second one, about a half hour's drive south from San Francisco on lovely Highway 1, sitting alongside a black London taxicab and a Chinese junk. Next to them is the beloved beer hall, restaurant, inn, games and party center, rv park and campground that makes up Cameron's Resturant and Pub. You can get a quick piece of piza, hamburger, steak dinner and a beer here, but don't try "quick," because owner Cameron Palmer is worth a sit-down leisurely visit. And while Palmer calls his place a "b&b," he reminds guests that the second "b" stands for "beverage," not breakfast; he makes every other meal, however, and they include English bangers, fish and chips, Scottish beef pie, and 21 different beers on tap and 65 bottled.
Just outside the door of the restaurant is a London telephone booth. Sure enough, Palmer urges his customers to take their cellphones inside to make calls inside it. In a back room, where the poles still sit in case anyone would like to pole dance after a few beers, there's also a place for shuffleboard, darts, billiards, pinball and Foosball.
The food is good, the beer is exceptional, and the visit is worth at least a full afternoon.
