After a few months, the yolk will become dark green, grayish, with an aroma of sulfur and ammonia. The whites are orange, or dark brown, with translucent flesh and slightly salty. In the past, this dish is often offered to the king or only used in the New Year, festivals or guests. Today, the thousand-year-old egg is a popular dish with porridge for breakfast.
