Yesterday while coming back from the office, I came across an aged woman of early sixties complaining about her female grand child behavior, ever since she visited her. According to her she said her grand child who was smart, agile and sharp during her daughters funeral service became dull and silly immediately her stepmother moved in with the Dad. This innocent girl in recent times have been reporting to the maternal grandmother, her awful experiences, how she has been maltreated, at home, when ever she does something wrong the stepmother will either be knocking or canes her on the head and because of that doctors have now diagnosed the girl of concussion.

Today’s post I will be emphasizing on the CONCUSSION as a dangerous trauma encountered as a result of a knock, Blow or hit on the head. Most parents much especially the Third World parents and guidance hits or canes their children on the head not knowing how disastrous their children intellects will be. When the Bible talks about training a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it (proverb 22:6). It did not say you should cane them on the head, there are other part of the body you can beat not the head.
WHAT IS CONCUSSION
It could also be called mild traumatic brain injury that is encounterd as a result of the massive destruction of brain cells (neurons) due to a knock, hit or blow. Severe concussion if not monitored may lead to contusion, hematomas, dementia or stroke. Studies have revealed that 1.2 million people suffers concussion in a year globally and about 500,000 people suffered severe ones like supples as well as bleedings such in contusion and hematomas

SYMPTOMS
Base on severeity concussion is categories into two

MILD SYMPTOMS
• Mild headache
• Dizziness
• Lack of concentration
• Feeling over stimulated by light or noise
• Sharp Memory lost
SEVERE SYMPTOMS
• Severe headache
• Vomiting
• Loss of consciousness
• Difficulty in speaking
• Visual problem
• Numbness of the limbs
• Persistence mild and severe symptoms
PEOPLE THAT ERE PRONE TO CONCUSSION
• ORPHANS ; Most especially orphans that are living with their step parents, some of them are not properly cared for.
• ATHLETES ; especially those that involves in field events example pro footballers, volleyballers and view track event athletes.
• Gender ; In this category women are more prone to concussion than men because they have smaller frames, neck muscles than men, once they are injured the effect can be more dire and they took longer time to recover especially female adulescent.
• People that take blood thinners are prone to fatal disorders that follows concussion.
CURE
• Studies have proven that concussion could be cured through mental and physical rest.
• People suffering from concussions should not take aspirin and ibuprofen as their pain reliever instead they should take acetaminophen to avoid excessive branial bleeding.

• Avoidance of mental stress by staying away from official duty will help.
• Avoidance of exercise will help because a blow to the head can generate swellings that may affect branial blood flow which can result in stroke.
MY ADVICE
• Please parents take good care of your wards and ensure that they don’t play rough games.
• If one experiences mild symptoms of concussion please meet your doctor for a neurological examination of strength, memory balance and reflexes.
• If it’s severe symptoms please engage in CT and ER scan in order to be accessed to avoid branial bleeding .
• Please we should be vigilant about changes in mood, behaviours and characters of our relatives when they are hurts
• Most especially parents from 3rd world countries should avoid knocking, hitting and beating the head of their children when they are wrong.
