RIP Stephen Hawing, cosmology brighest star (1942-2018)

Earlier today, the world lost one of the greatest physicists of this generation in the person of Professor Stephen Hawing.

Who was the man, Stephen Hawing?

i. Some have described Mr. Hawing as one of the greatest modern physicists in the mode of Albert Einstein

ii. He was a "former Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge (arguably Britain's most distinguished chair, held by Isaac Newton in 1663, Charles Babbage and Paul Dirac (one of the founding fathers of quantum mechanics)) and author of A Brief History of Time which was an international bestseller".

iii. In 1963,he was diagnosed of motor neurone disease and was given two years to live but he went on to live over 50 more years!

iv. Professor Hawking held more than twelve (12) honorary degrees and was awarded the CBE in 1982.

v. Some of the presitigious award he won in his lifetime included the Albert Einstein Award, the Fundamental Physics prize, the Wolf Prize, and the Copley Medal.

vi. Somehow, he never won their Nobel Prize.

vii. Professor Hawing was credited with discovering and explaining the Black hole theory.

viii. He was awarded the presidential medal of freedom in 2009 by former US President, Barack Obama.

ix. He was twice married and divorced.

x. He passed on in the early hours of today, Wednesday March 14, 2018 at his home in Cambridge.
