One of my favorite coins from 2016 is this 1oz silver Ivory Coast Elephant from Geiger Edelmetalle, it was released in December of 2015 and became my avatar on youtube and steemit when i first joined, i do love elephants, a big beast (like me) and the antique finish is just gorgeous. It has a face value of 1000 CFA Francs.
This little unassuming chunk of silver is the small version of the biggest silver coin in the world, a monster 54kg man hole cover of a coin that would flatten you if you was trapped under it and almost impossible to fit in the average pocket and trying to spend one in Sainsburys is not advised as its hard to get it in the till and even harder to get the change from the 1 million CFA Francs face value, betty on customer services is just not to be messed with.
One nice feature of the coin is a full Euro from evey one of the 1,000 mintage was given to rescue and protect the African Elephant, its not much but most coins dont give anything. Im sure i saw a programme where they are now painting tusks and rhino horns in a special bright pink paint to detract poachers and making the ivory useless which is a fantastic idea to save these magnificent creatures for future generations to marvel at.
Every coin is individually numbered, as yoju can see i have number 219/1000 and i dont think these coins sold out, they were for sale on the MCI Mint website and Geiger websites but i never saw them for sale anywhere else and other than the big bugger version this coin was under appreciated, not by me i just love it.
