Polish cheeses paired with Romanian wines

Recently I have organized together with ASBO and the Polish Language and Culture Center a little different wine and cheese pairing event.

Half of the participants were Polish (soldiers from the Polish Military Contingent affiliated to the 26th Infantry Battalion "Neagoe Basarab" within the South East Multinational Brigade).

Magdalena Filary, coordinator of the Center for Polish Language and Culture was our host. Magda also assured the translation.

We have tasted the following pairs:

Sauvignon Blanc Domeniile Sâmburești with camembert
Chardonay Domeniile Sâmburești with Tylżycki Rose Domeniile Sâmburești with Edamski Merlot Domeniile Sâmburești with Podlaski
Cabernet Sauvignon Domeniile Sâmburești with Gołka

For neutralization we had Aqua Carpatica flat water.

For our guests was the first wine and cheese tasting they attended.

The Poles, like most Europeans from the north, are not large wine consumers. They rather prefers beer and distillates, especially vodka.

However, some of them have shown that they stay well with the taste buds and have actively participated in the discussions.

In fact, since 2004, wine consumption in Poland has increased by more than 60%.

About Polish cheeses I can say is very much like a style with Romanian cheeses in the northern area of the country. So, they went perfectly with our wines.

I personally most loved the Gołka with cabernet sauvignon.

After wines, we also tested a plum brandy and this sparked the enthusiasm of Polish friends. It was normal because  I distilled it at 45 °. Unfortunately, it was too little.

Perhaps next time we will have a tasting of distilled beverages in Polish style. With a lot of meat, picking and, of course, vodka!
