Importance of teaching children gender equality at an early age.

Today we live in a society that lives in discrimination for various reasons, being one of the oldest gender equality, which affects large and small, personally and socially.

We can witness how children not want to include girls in their circle of games because they are considered weak, or even girls do not play with children because they consider them violent. The same way, when growing up can be a victim of discrimination in universities or work areas considering one gender more qualified than another.

For this reason it is important to work on gender equality at an early age, at home and from schools, to eliminate stereotypes related to gender and prevent sexist discrimination in the future.

Why children create gender discrimination?

Children when they grow up have no idea what discrimination means and much less among themselves, it is as they grow up by raising their parents, relatives, friends and even in the classroom that create these kinds of negative attitudes.

When we say to children, that children should not cry, that girls are delicate, that men should not express their feelings or that girls do not have strength, we are creating erroneous stereotypes, creating insecurities in children and marking differences.

Children can cry when they feel sad or sick, so girls can be strong. We must work on values and respect towards others, regardless of whether they are of the same sex or not, or of any social condition or race.

As adults, we must eliminate division when we speak or act, since we would be causing harm to our children in general and it is important that each child feels confident and can work together for the rights of each one.

Example 1:

Pedro and Ana, are a couple with two children, a girl named Sofia and a boy named Juan, when serving the table, Sofia must help her mother while Juan does not do anything, since according to his habits the activities corresponding to the Home only belongs to women.

Observation: This type of attitude must be eliminated, since children and men can and should help women with household activities, since it is everyone's responsibility to create a healthy environment, where everyone should be treated with equality and respect, since each member of the family is unique and important.

Example 2:

While Ana and Juan play in the garden, they stumble and fall, for that reason they begin to cry. The mom comes out to see what happens, and while she helps them, she tells Juan not to cry, because the children are strong and do not cry.

Observation: With this attitude, the mother will make Juan an insecure child who does not have the courage to openly show his emotions. Children, like girls, can cry and express what they feel without being considered less strong than anyone else.

Promote equality.

We should eliminate prejudices and teach children that everyone is capable of doing any activity that they propose, as long as they wish, without harming anyone. It is undeniable that girls and boys are physically different and that they may have different feelings and thoughts, but they must learn from these differences and assume them.

Adults should give the example to children of equality, avoiding creating wrong behaviors that make them grow up with wrong ideas, so we must use all the necessary tools for their positive development, such as good communication and educational games where there is no male role or feminine, that in its place is inclusive. Children are susceptible in their childhood stage, for this reason we must provide the best of us.
