All change generates uncertainty in people, even more so in adolescents who are beginning to define their identity, and they stop being children to become adults.
Moving from college to university is a big change, since it is about starting an adult life with great responsibilities, that is why it is the most remembered and influential time in the life of all. It's about knowing new friendships, different teachers, changing your routine, facing new experiences and defining what you want in your future.
Emotions that my son can present when he decides to go to university?
As parents we are proud when our child decides to go to continue preparing professionally and personally, it is about realizing many of his dreams. But it is very important to know how they can feel.
Taking this step for young people makes them feel excited and happy, but also worried and anxious about all the challenges they will have to face. It is normal that we can see our children with nerves, insecure, doubting their decisions, for this reason we must provide all possible support, helping them in whatever is necessary and providing the necessary tools for their growth.
How can I help my son?
It is important to look for and read information about any concerns that may be present:
- In the first place, the adolescent must be oriented so that he feels secure with the career he has chosen, through his interests and abilities. Similarly within the institutions there are people trained to guide them in their insecurities.
- The wishes you have as a parent should be left aside, since it is your child's future, that you feel comfortable and confident with your decision, as it will be the profession of your entire life.
- You must prepare early with finances, since studying anywhere in the world is considered an expense, and having nothing prepared can make it difficult for your son to study the career he wants, in the place he likes, or have all the equipment complete study, such as books, notebooks, guides, among others according to the career.
- You can create a savings fund, exclusively for the studies of your child, and explain from an early age, the importance of saving for your studies and future.
- It is important that if you notice that your child has difficulty adapting to changes or integrate new experiences, you help, motivate and encourage at all times so that you do not give up and can meet your goals, as well as meet new people and make great friends. The first weeks are the most important.
You can use all the positive aspects of your experience at the university to show your child how important and meaningful the university is in each person's life. Never stop talking with him and motivate him to achieve his dreams, without leaving aside the values inculcated.
