31st day of may was the world tobacco day. A day set aside to reflect on tobacco and it's numerous effects, benefits and cost to human life. It is an annual event observed by all UN countries with the goal of encouraging a 24hour abstinence from tobacco in all forms.

Tobacco is one of the widely used recreational drugs world wide with about 1.1billiom adult smokers worldwide. Tobacco however has seen a decline in its global usage partly due to increasing awareness of its health implications and also due to the WHO action plan against smoking.

A lot is known about smoking as it concerns health and this post will outline some of them.
Tobacco is associated with none communicable disease like cancers, cardiovascular disease,Chronic bronchitis,cor pulmonale,stroke and asthma. This is a very short list as the list is almost endless. The constituents of the tobacco smoke contains thousands of substances with most of them being well documented carcinogens.

Smoking is dangerous to the smoker as it is to the none smoker. Second class smoking KS defined as smoke inhalation from a nearby smoker. It is even fatal if duration. Of exposure is prolonged. This is because there's no filter to absorb some constituents of the smoke as is the case of a person smoking.

Smoking has some health benefits. Notable among them is the low risk of developing Parkinson's disease on smokers. However this is a drop in the bucket as compared to the myriads of unhealthy effects it has to the body.
