Like I've said countless times in my previous posts, I'm relatively new to the steemit platform and so far, it's has been a fair experience for me.
However I have noticed that most newbies just like myself tend to post a lot articles on steemit, which is not a bad thing, but the question I want to ask is:
Who are you writing for?
It will be a total waste of time if you're posting articles on a regular basis without having people read them. You've not created value in any way if you ask me. Your work just simply sinks into the abyss of the plethora of articles that are really never seen. It goes beyond using popular hashtags and writing a great post. I've actually seen some very not-so-great post get massive upvotes, and there must be a reason for that.
My first week on steemit I had a goal of posting regularly and earning about 10SBD in two weeks. It's most three weeks now and I have barely made any. At first, I got frustrated, but after reading some articles and meeting some people I realized that I have to change my mindset. Yes, your initial aim was to write and make money, I had the same goal too, but I discover that it is more than that. You must have heard a million times the importance of creating value for the steemit platform by way of writing quality posts and promoting the platform. But I have another for you: creating value for people.
What do people value the most on steemit? The answer is feedback. No one is an island. I bet if you kept on writing and no one comments or upvotes your post, it's only a matter of time before you decide to quit. What I'm saying here, in essence, is that you need to reach out to people and you can do that in the following ways
- Commenting
- Upvoting
- Reposting
- Following people
- Joining a community of steemians
I'm going to emphasis on the importance of commenting on other people's post(s).
Someone suggested in steemit-school-live-class (you can be present in the next class just click on this link https://discord.gg to join our discord group) that you at least comment ten times a day on different posts. This is one of the most effective ways of building rapport on steemit. And guess what? You may even get an upvote on your comment if the writer likes it, and he or she might even go forward to read one of your posts. And there is a psychology behind this: people feel indebted to you once you give them something of value and with a few constant exchanges, it's only a matter of time before it becomes automate--your post will be sort after by the said person.
It might seem like a tedious process but it is one that guarantees a solid fellowship and that's what you need to progress on steemit.
In addition, before now you might have been using other social media platform to share your thoughts and ideas, so why you not continue and bring your audience along too? Steemit is not a closed system. You can interact with your audience by way of sharing links to your steemit post. Who knows, they might join the community of steemians and in that way you've created value for them and the steemit network.
In conclusion, I won't reiterate my opening statement by saying that writing great posts is not enough. Do not leave your work in isolation. See yourself as a service provider, Identify your potential customers, their needs and how best to reach them. Steemit is a platform that offers a win-win for everybody, but in my opinion, you must be willing to give as much as you're hoping to receive.
