Block chain social media is an extremely new concept with the Steemit platform being the first of it's kind. Since Steemit has shown up we have seen Synero, Indorse, Gilgamesh, and Narrative arrive on the scene with plans to launch their platforms in the coming months. It's a pretty exciting time to be honest.
Steemit has been my first social media experience, and is what brought the Steem cryptocurrency to my attention. I have been buying and selling crypto for years now, so when I encountered this smart, fast, and all together amazing block chain I was immediately taken with it. Add to that the Steemit app being built on top of it and it's altogether a win win. So imagine my excitement finding out we have a new app on the way built on the Steem block chain. So in this post I'm going to tell you guys about APPICS from what I have learned in good old simple language.
First off I was really quite taken with their white paper... Genuinely can't believe I just typed that... Usually white papers are a mission to get through and not non techy friendly. APPICS white paper is user friendly though. After my experience on Steemit I found what they are putting across both easy to understand and extremely interesting reading. So for those who would normally be bored I'll throw the bullet points out there and if it interest you then you can go to their website and have a look yourself.
The APPICS platform looks like it will bring all the best traits of Instagram and Pintrest plus the standard social media sharing experience to one place. Steemit is writer driven in the style of content you find here I have found. Posts aren't really post as much as write up's and a good one can take hours to construct. From what I can tell APPICS will be a platform where contribution whether video or photo will be extremely easy to do and nowhere near as time consuming.
Like we have the Steem Dollar in the Steemit ecosystem, Appics will have its own platform currency called the XAP. In much the same way we earn Steem Dollars on Steemit we will be able to earn XAP on APPICS. And like on Steemit with our voting power in the form of Steem power, we will have like power on APPICS with XAP being what we can earn or invest into it. So extremely similar to Steemit in that regard, and like Steemit it's all transparent.
Now where I find what APPICS is doing as extremely interesting is they will be bringing vendors to the platform. I.e persons or businesses who we as users can purchase from with our earned XAP directly. The platform will have a mobile app in which we will be able to this from as well. In fact the app will soon be available in Android and I phone app stores. They seem to be hitting the ground running here. You still have the option to convert your earnings to fiat, but other options will be available as well.
We have had a lot of problems on Steemit with bad actors draining the rewards pool recently. I get the impression from the white paper that the team behind APPICS has this sussed and the language seems pretty firm as does their approach... Well firm without coming across as invasive. It seems there will be an oversight of sorts which will be open to community vigilance as well as from APPICS itself.
So in conclusion, I don't think it's the app to replace Steemit as it where, but rather a new arrival offering a different social media experience on the Steem block chain. I know we have a lot of exciting stuff on the way like EOS, but even if a powerful beautifully built social media application is built on the EOS block chain I think there's room for a bit of everything. Twitter and Facebook don't really compete for instance. Granted Steemit can feel a bit clunky and unwieldy on occasions, but it's still a pretty awesome place, not to mention in its early days.....and built on a pretty powerful block chain.
I'll include the links to the APPICS white paper and home page. I'm eager to participate in their ICO, but I haven't received an e,mail from them yet despite signing up trying to sign up twice on their website. Ho hum. I don't think that bodes poorly, and am still extremely excited for the chance to be one of the platforms early users. Well guys that's it for now. Just figured I'd do a write to share in the case you hadn't heard about this exciting new platform. Thank you for reading, wishing you all the best on your posts, and of course Steem on.
