Zuckerberg made reference to digital currencies in a publication on Thursday in which he described how 2018 will be spent trying to correct lingering problems, including the proliferation of hate speech and misinformation, which have affected his tremendously popular social network for the past two years.

"There are important counter-trends to this --like encryption and cryptocurrency -- that take power from centralized systems and put it back into people's hands" - wrote Zuckerberg
