Dear Steemit Friends!
Saturday August 5, 2017 - I had the pleasure to attend the Steemit Philippines Grand Meetup this weekend. As you all know, Steemit is a decentralized platform that empowers people to come together to collaborate, share ideas and experiences, voice opinions, and make a difference in communities. This meetup was a continuation of that initiative to help spread awareness to the Philippines community. The excitement, hard work, and passion of all the people who organized and attended the event made this meetup a very successful event - a good start to what I expect to be many more events to come.
Initially the list of RSVP attendees was around 25, but the actual attendance once the event kicked off ended up being 30-40 participants. It was an evening of Introductions, knowledge sharing, QAs, and an all-around good time for all of those who attended. Below is a recap of some of the presentations and discussions that started the evening off:
@sasha.shade kicked off the event with a warm welcome and opening remarks. Since we had a few guests who were new to Steemit, (some of which did not even have accounts yet) he went over a brief explanation of what Steemit was, the technology behind the platform, and about the community itself.
@deveerei followed by sharing his experience with Steemit and how as a graphic artist he was able to establish himself and share his talent with the community. He talked about the various contests that he participated in which were hosted by some well known whales and members of Steemit such as @steemgigs / @surpassinggoogle and @officialfuzzy - who incidentally also promoted and contributed some giveaways for this meetup.
Unfortunately @dreamiely was not able to attend the event so instead, @jeanelleybee did an excellent job following up by explaining the various methods that Steemit users had at their disposal to convert their hard earned Steem dollars to Philippine Peso.
When that was complete, we took a short break to enjoy the food that was catered by the venue (Thank you Rehab Restobar for hosting us and allowing us to use your venue for this event.) During this short break many of the guests took this opportunity to meet and chat with one another. There was a buzz of excitement around the room the entire event.
Once everyone got enough food, I shared some of the very limited information about being a witness - What is the responsibility of a witness, the process for setting up a witness, and a brief overview of why i chose to become a witness and a brief overview of some of the projects we were working on.
As a close to the formal discussions, @luvabi talked a little about Whaleshares. She talked about the community that @officialfuzzy had created to encourage and support steemit users in projects and other endeavors that they wanted to initiate. She gave a brief overview of the bitshares exchange and the benefits to being active participants and members of the Steemit community.
In close it was time to award the raffle winners BEYONDBIT tokens which were donated by @officialfuzzy - Thanks for helping to sponsor this event! Below are pictures of the various winners that were selected randomly.
There were also several other prizes provided by @luvabi for the first 20 guests who showed up early to the event as well as SBD prizes provided by @sasha.shade for a reputation contest he held up to the day of the event.
The entire event was LiveStreamed on Google Meetups, Youtube, and Facebook! You can check out the Video in my Previous Post HERE.
During the event T-shirts designed by @haleyaerith, @deveerei, and @tjpezlo were also available for sale, which you can see several of the participants wearing.
All-in-all, the event was a great success. The participation was more then what was expected, the questions and discussions were insightful and immersive, and we were able to spread awareness and sign up several new Steemit users. As one of the first of many, I look forward to larger and more grand meetups and helping the PH community spread Steemit across the Philippines.
A special Thanks to @luvabi, @jeanellybee, and @grazz for working tirelessly in making this event possible. Your hard work and dedication made this event a success. I met so many wonderful and talented people and I hope that I will get the opportunity to partner with all of you on future projects, collaborations, and activities. Here's looking forward to bigger and better things for Steemit and Team Philippines!!
