I found that with the fan on a setting of 4 to 5 (about 1/2 speed) I could feel the air flow from at least 7-8 m away, and the noise was barely noticeable. We have the fan set adjacent to a fireplace that was not installed with it's own fan, to assist in distributing the heat around the room and it works very well. The fan is also adjacent to the TV, and at the 4 to 5 setting, it does not impair hearing of the audio from the TV. Overall I'm very impressed with the performance. It does, however, come at a hefty price tag.We have this going all night year round in the main bedroom to circulate the air for a more comfortable sleep. The lowest speed setting '1' is perfect for this, barely audible, and has really helped with getting a good night's rest. The remote is a nice touch as is the auto-off sleep timer. It's also light weight so you can move it easily from room to room and it looks pretty stylish wherever you put it. If you can stretch to the price it's worth the outlay. Definitely a quality Dyson product.
