Fire In The Word

JEREMIAH 5: 12-14

Therefore this is what the LORD God Almighty says: They have lied about the LORD; they said, “He will do nothing! No harm will come to us; we will never see sword or famine. The prophets are but wind and the word is not in them; so let what they say be done to them.” “Because the people have spoken these words, I will make my words in your mouth a fire and these people the wood it consumes.

The ministry of Prophet Jeremiah was characterised by persecution and intimidation. He was threatened in his home town Anaoth. He faced trials from even the priest and the people. He was publicly humiliated and thrown into a cistern. Even false prophets of his time tried to demean his message. Going by the human nature, Jeremiah would have abandoned his ministry; for he said: “...I will not make mention of Him nor speak anymore in His name”. But the power in the word would not let him. God‘s word was like a fire in his mouth and a burning fire shut up in his bones.

This is the divine compelling nature of the word, full of impact. Is anyone or circumstances creating impediments in our way to fulfil our divine assignment, the power in the word like fire will give us that sense of spiritual responsibility and I pray that we shall bold and courageous like Jeremiah, in Jesus name. Amen. The word of God as a fire also denotesits lightning power. God' 5 word is a lamp and light to give guidance, clarity and direction In the wilderness of life.

The word of God as a fire equally denotes its purifying power to cleanse and make pure God's people. While doing this, the word of God as fire is also destroying all impurities of man's life; condemning sin and putting all ungodliness to shame. Let us therefore be committed to the Word and keep the fire power burning in us, for a pure, blessed and victorious life.
