Daniel 1 Reina-Valera 1960 (RVR1960)
Daniel and his companions in Babylon
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and besieged it.
And the LORD delivered into his hand Jehoiakim king of Judah, and part of the vessels of the house of God; and he brought them into the land of Shinar, into the house of his god, and put the vessels into the treasure house of his god.
And the king said unto Ashpenaz, the chief of his eunuchs, that he should bring of the children of Israel, of the king's seed of princes,
young men in whom there was no blemish, of good repute, taught in all wisdom, wise in knowledge and good understanding, and fit to be in the king's palace; and to teach them the letters and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's food, and of the wine which he drank; and that he should bring them up three years, that they might come before the king at the end of them.
Among these were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, of the children of Judah.
To these the prince of the eunuchs gave names: Daniel, Belteshazzar; Hananiah, Shadrach; Mishael, Meshach; and Azariah, Abed-nego.
And Daniel purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he asked the prince of the eunuchs that he should not be compelled to defile himself.
