We Raised $2,000 USD In Steem Funds! Here's What We're Planning To Do With It 💙

Belief is the magic key that unlocks your dreams. - Orrin Woodward

We're stoked and proud to tell you that our dreams have been unlocked!

@dreamsoftheocean started in summer 2017, having the (crazy) idea to build a social initiative around watersports and to create one of the first real charity projects backed by Steem.

The core idea is to organize watersports activities for kids in need, financed by funds raised on steemit.com. Our team is operating on a local level on Canary Islands, but we believe that the idea of @dreamsoftheocean could serve as a showcase for multiple activities around the whole world.

For the time being we're going to focus on our local project, which has proved successful in the past. So we're happiest to announce that - thanks to your incredibly generous donations - we'll be doing this again!

Let's dream of the Ocean again!

'The dreamers' - @surfermarly with her local surf school partners

Everybody can be a dreamer!

From our own experience, there's one thing we can tell you for sure: If you want to do good, then you simply need to do good.

Human beings often tend to complicate things, but taking care of others is actually not rocket science.

In summer 2017 we built a team of three parties: the Red Cross Lanzarote as connector to the needy families and lifeguard team on site, the surf school Calima Surf as provider of surf knowledge and training skills and @surfermarly as sponsor on behalf of the Steem community.

Together we are 'the dreamers'.

In late summer 2017 we organized three surf events with a total of 48 kids. Some of them had never done any watersports activities so far, yet they learned quickly.

The events were not only a huge pleasure for their participants but also for us - as organizing team. We can all swear that we'll never forget these days at the shore, knowing that the only thing we had to do was making them happy.

The highest reward is looking these kids into their eyes when they get out of the water.

Same, same but different

In summer 2017 we're planning to change our concept slightly.

That is due to the experiences we made organizing the events last summer. The Red Cross informed us that there were actually a lot of kids in the network of needy families that couldn't participate in our surf activity because they didn't know how to swim.

These circumstances led us to the following idea: instead of offering surf lessons, we'll be teaching kids how to swim.

They're only one swim away from the good mood.

And that's all thanks to you!!! So we'd like to thank the ones that have been sending their generous donations to our wallet during the past months of our absence. Thank you so much @hanshotfirst, @azizbd, @galberto, @fukako and @rebeccabe!

As a matter of course, 100% of all the funds sent to our wallet and 100% of the generated SP and SBD through blog posting are used for the cause!

It's all on the blockchain, but just for the records: We've been doing three transactions so far, resulting in the following total of liquid funds:

Not included yet are the $640.44 USD in Steem funds that are still in the @dreamsoftheocean wallet (16th of April 2018).

So we have the wind at our back!

During the next weeks we'll be planning the new events, including location scouting and negotiation, scheduling, group building and human ressources planning.

Supposedly we'll be scheduling the first event for middle of June, depending on the availability of the corresponding swimming facilities. We'll keep you updated!

Again, thank you very much for your amazing support! Without the Steem community this wouldn't be possible.

Remember: The next time you're wondering if you can do it, just do it.

See you soon,
The dreamers

If you haven't seen it yet: Here's how @dreamsoftheocean was presented at Steemfest²:

It still gives us the creeps...

PS: Special thanks to the especially loyal supporter @felander who's been constantly blog posting about our project and who reached out during the past weeks in order to know how everything's going to be rolled out this summer. We appreciate your greatness!
